Food Distribution

At the core of our weekly outreach is the Thursday Food

Welcome to the official blog of The Salvation Army - Surrey Ministries!

We are so glad you have found your way here. This blog is our way of sharing the incredible things happening within our ministry, as well as the small and big ways we’re supporting individuals and families across Surrey.

Serving Hope Every Thursday: Inside Our Weekly Food Distribution Service

At the core of our weekly outreach is the Thursday Food Distribution—a practical, community-focused program that provides free groceries to anyone in need. Thanks to generous donations from our local supermarket partners, Prakash No Frills and Walmart on 88 Ave!

More Than a Box of Food

If you need food, you are welcome here! It’s all part of our mission to fight food insecurity and offer dignity, kindness, and hope to our neighbors. Every Thursday, we open our doors to distribute free groceries, including fresh produce, baked goods, pantry items, and other essentials, collected from our partnered supermarkets. These groceries are rescued, and then sorted and packed by our team of staff and volunteers, and then handed out to anyone who needs a bit of extra support.

The impact reaches far beyond just a box of food. For many who come, these weekly visits are a source of connection and encouragement—a reminder that someone sees them and cares. Our team is always on hand with a smile, a chat, and information about additional support services available through The Salvation Army.

Behind the Scenes

Every Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, our space is a hive of activity. Our staff and volunteers unload boxes of donated food, check expiry dates, sort items by category, and carefully pack boxes of food with care and dignity in mind. It’s not glamorous work—but it’s full of purpose.

Some volunteers have been faithfully serving for years, and some have joined us only recently. Together, they make this ministry possible. Stay tuned for some seasonal updates soon!

A Season of Gratitude and Giving

As we approach Thanksgiving, we are reminded of the importance of sharing our blessings with others. While many families will gather around tables filled with food, some in our community continue to face hunger and uncertainty. Through our Food Distribution service, we are committed to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy a nourishing meal and experience the spirit of gratitude and togetherness this season brings.

This Work Needs People Like You

Our Food Distribution service wouldn’t be possible without the kindness of our volunteers, donors, and retail partners. If you’ve ever thought about how to make a real, local difference, this is your chance!

You can support this ministry by:
•Volunteering your time to help with sorting, packing, and/or food distribution
•Donate funds or grocery items to supplement our weekly supply
•Partnering with us as a local business or retailer
•Spreading the words so those in need know where to come

Get involved by volunteering! Even a few hours a month can make a big difference. Will you join us? Or support this ministry by donating to support the cause!

Looking Ahead

This is just the first of many updates we’ll be sharing through our blog. In months to come, we’ll highlight more of our ministries, share personal stories, and keep you informed on how we’re serving Surrey with compassion and purpose.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with us. Together, we can ensure that no one in our community goes hungry—or feels forgotten.
